The millionaire businessman Oliver Cutts lived at 17 Garrad's Road. He owned the South London Motor chain.
In 1958 The Gaumont Penge which he owned was controversially demolished and a garage/petrol station was built on the site. Today, there are three retail units with flats above located at the site.
